Shanelle "Princess Kazayah" Mitchell was born & raised in the city of Chicago. Growing up in the 7th Day Adventist Church music was viewed by her as focal point for praise. Beginning at the age of 4, Kazayah developed a deep, spiritual vocal delivery through worship. This is evident in the smooth transition from Christian Gospel into Roots Reggae music. Her natural soulfulness is prevalent in every track she has voiced and with her connection with Wadadah II, the top producer of contemporary Roots Reggae and Dub in Chicago, exposed her to original and deep Roots Reggae from the 70s and 80s. It was during this time she found a deep love for the music and increased her drive to become an artist.
After releasing "Troddin: The DubTape" (A compilation of original lyrics sung over classic Jamaican riddims) Kazayah took hold the attention of the Reggae World. Recording songs with iconic artists such as Addis Pablo, Turbulence, Warrior King on top of working with some of the best producers in the world, she has achieved critical acclaim and success as the top Roots Reggae artist in the Midwest. Establishing herself as an international artist early on in her career, Kazayah has performed all over the world from Mexico to Canada down to The Carribean Islands. She has added some big showcases alongside major touring acts such as Marcia Griffiths, Lady G, Sizzla, Cali P and Mr. Williamz. As a stand out live performance, Kazayah and the D.O.V.E. Muzik band headlined Simmer Down Sound at the world famous Double Door in Chicago, Illinois. This performance showed everyone her ability to not only sound good in the studio, but to not miss a note while in front of a packed room.
